Our ultimate goals is to reach 100% spay or neuter of pets in San Patricio County! If you have a pet that is not spayed or neutered, please contact us; we may be able to help.
We sometimes get grant funds to help families fix (spay/neuter) their dog. Please contact us for more information about this program.
We still have funds available to help San Patricio County pet owners with the cost of spaying and neutering their dog(s). There is plenty of money left for assistance with spaying or neutering costs for large dogs—those at or over 40 lbs, but since our first announcement in December 2011, almost all the money set aside for small dogs—those under 40 lbs, have been allotted to San Patricio County residents who quickly took advantage of this cost assistance program. Those residents with small dogs who somehow missed the boat but are still in need of cost assistance for fixing their pets are welcome to contact us and request that we put their names on a waiting list for the next grant for which we will apply as soon as the funds allotted for large dogs under the current grant have been exhausted. Those pet owners who have large dogs can still get assistance with the costs of spaying or neutering them under this grant.
Vouchers for spay and neuter veterinary cost assistance funded by the current grant are available to San Patricio County residents only. These generous vouchers are redeemable at participating veterinary clinics within the county. If you are a San Patricio County resident who wants to take advantage of this spay and neuter cost assistance opportunity, please call us at 361.332.1445 to apply for one of these vouchers for your pet. Specific details as to the exact monetary value of each voucher will be disclosed once you qualify for assistance.
Please note that these vouchers are available only as long as grant funds last, therefore they are distributed on a first–come–first–serve basis. All vouchers must be used within thirty days of receipt otherwise they will expire in which case they will become null and void. There are no exceptions to this thirty–day requirement for cashing in a voucher. Vouchers for the cost of the spay or neuter surgery are accepted at Floerke Veterinary Clinic in Taft, McCoy Veterinary Clinic in Sinton, or Portland Veterinary Hospital in Portland. They cannot be used at any other veterinary clinic so please be sure to make an appointment with one of these veterinary clinics as soon as you are awarded a voucher in order to ensure that it will not expire and become unusable.
Please continue to check back periodically for information about other cost assistance programs that arise as we garner the funds to pay for them. Our goal is to provide as much assistance to county resident pet owners as we can. Also, keep an eye on the events page because there are often opportunities for low–cost shots from veterinarians within the county which we post. Lastly, please check the resources page for links to websites which provide such services as lost pet assistance, pet food coupons, health tips and other helpful services.
